Congratulations to Tim Watts from the CHSHS senior class of 1999 for his elevation in the 2022 Federal Government to the position of ‘Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs’. Tim has never wavered in his wishes voiced in his schooling at Centenary Heights of seeking a future role serving the community in Parliament.

Since being elected to the House of Representatives in the seat of Gellibrand (Victoria) in 2013, Tim has championed causes for all Australians such as diversity, improved online protections, strengthening domestic violence laws and closer ties with the international community - causes that were evident in his thinking during his years at Centenary.

Tim has continued with his love of sport where in 1999, he was Swartz House Captain and spending considerable time on the Basketball courts right through to today where he is a died in the wool Western Bulldogs supporter in the AFL.

Since graduating from Centenary, Tim has graduated from Bond University with a Law Degree (Honours) and completed a Masters at Monash University and studied abroad completing his Masters at the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science.

Tim’s forward thinking today was evident 23 years ago in his time at Centenary where he was clear in his support for a better multicultural society and also pointing out some of the dangers for everyday Australians, hidden within introduced protections in the cyber security system.

Tim is also the author of two books (‘Two Futures – Australia at a Critical Moment’, co-written with Clare O’Neal and ‘The Golden Country, Australia’s Changing Identity’) that take a refreshing look at Australia and offer positive paths for our future.

It is quite fitting that the school community celebrate Tim’s success as he continues his family’s history where his Great, Great, Great Grandfather, John Watts was the Member for Drayton and Toowoomba in Queensland’s first Legislative Assembly in 1860.

We look forward to following his role in helping shape Australia’s future path both within our nation and also in enhancing our foreign relations.
