On Sunday and Monday (1st & 2nd May) of the Labour Day weekend, students involved in our Instrumental Music Ensembles participated in two days of workshops with staff and students from the Qld Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane.  It was a fabulous opportunity for our students to further develop their skills with specific focus on technique and musicianship.  The students participated in ensemble workshops as well as sectionals where they were provided instrument specific tips and instruction from Master Teacher, Mr Ben Marks and a number of Tertiary Students currently studying at the Conservatorium.

The workshops culminated in a Concert Performance where the work of the students was showcased to parents and families through ensemble performances by the Stage Band, Concert Band, Senior and Junior Strings and Symphony Orchestra.

We are extremely grateful for the generosity shown by Mr Mark Sullivan and Mrs Stefanie Smith from the Qld Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University, who gave up two days of their weekend to work with our students and share their expertise and musical wisdom.  This investment is so valuable and the impact was certainly evident in the Concert Performances, putting these ensembles in a great position leading into the Fanfare Regional Heats.

We’d also like to acknowledge the hard work, commitment and expertise of our two Instrumental Music Teachers, Mrs Jessica Johansen and Mr Naden Gray for their fabulous work with our instrumentalists every week.
