Design Technologies and Hospitality

Manufacturing industries transform raw materials into products wanted by society and this focus of underpinning design practices and production processes is the aim of our Industrial Technology offerings here at CHSHS in: Industrial Graphics Skills, Furnishing Skills, Building &  Construction Skills, Engineering Skills and Engineering, across both junior and senior levels. CHSHS ultimately remains focussed on maintaining the integration of practical elements in addition to the design focus under the Design Technologies Australian Curriculum.

 Studies in Industrial Technology provides foundation skills for not only general life skills and employment, but also skills useful in University and TAFE courses of study.  ITD offers subjects for ATAR and non-ATAR.

CHSHS aims to develop student capacity via all of our programs in junior and senior; Design Technologies, Furnishing Skills, Engineering Skills, Building & Construction Skills, Industrial Graphics Skills, Engineering and Engineering Robotics Technologies.  Students are encouraged to be creative and adopt practical skills and apply their knowledge to real-world problems – great experience for leaving school and entering the workforce.    Year 7 students are provided with a practical introduction to skills learned in ITD, via the subject Design Technologies.  Students who then choose to move into our elective area in Junior Manufacturing are introduced to the theoretical background of Engineering Skills, Furnishing Skills and Engineering Robotics Technologies and Industrial Graphics, while continuing to develop practical skills. Where possible, students are enriched and extended through industry software applications and use of modern manufacturing equipment and resources.

Year 7 Design and Technologies

​Builds on concepts, skills and processes developed in primary school. Design and Technologies students are encouraged to think for themselves, plan, ideate, generate designs and produce designs using sketching and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD). Once the design is created, students can produce products physically using technologies such as the laser cutter or 3D printer.

Year 9 and 10 Industrial Graphics Skills​
 
Develops intellectual, manipulative, analytical and problem solving skills in graphical communication.
 
Year 9 and 10 Furnishing Skills Design and Technologies
 
Introduces students to woodwork, machining including​ wood turning.
 
                                                                    
Introduces students to sheet metal work, fitting and fabrication, metal turning and art metal work.
 
Year  9 and 10 Engineering & Robotics Technologies
 

Introduces students to Electrical technologies, theory of Electrical Design, Robotics and associated technologies.

Year 11 and 12 Building and Construction Studies
 
Engages students in a series of construction projects, replicating skills in the industry.
 
Year 11 and 12 Engineering Skills
 
Introduces students to the world of engineering, replicating where possible skills utilised in the industry.
 
Year 11 and 12 Furnishing Skills
 
Introduces students to the world of furnishing and industry specific training, replicating skills used in the industry.
 
Year 11 and 12 Engineering
 
Engineering is a course of study that provides an opportunity for students to gain an understanding of the underlying concepts and principles of engineering.  ATAR general subject.

8 Food and Fibre Pro​​​du​ction

This subject focuses on providing a general introduction to the study of Food and Fibre. These units are designed to provide students with an introductory knowledge and skills necessary to achieve success in the Food and Design Units related to Food and Fibre Study in the Middle School.

​​9/10 Food Sp​ecialisations

Studies in Food Specialisations aim to develop in students' knowledge and skills associated with food selection and preparation that are health promoting. It offers the opportunity to design and encourage creativity in food selection and production.

9/10 Food and Fibre Studies

Studies in Textiles Design and Foods aim to develop in students knowledge and skills in the areas of foods and textiles that are necessary for everyday living.  Both areas offer the opportunity to design and encourage creativity in selection and production of items.

10 Introduction to S​​enior Hospitality

Studies in this subject aim to provide students with the opportunity to experience knowledge and skills required in the hospitality industry.  The student will become adept at some of the techniques, procedures and terminology necessary for successful food preparation, presentation and service. Students will acquire a greater understanding of the hospitality industry.

10 Introduction to Hospitality Practices

Studies in this subject aim to provide students with the opportunity to experience knowledge and skills required in hospitality events. Students will become adept at some of the techniques, processes and evaluation necessary for planning events. Students will acquire a greater understanding of event planning.

11/12 Hospitality Pr​​actices

This course aims to provide the skills and knowledge for an introduction to the planning and delivering of hospitality events.

11/12 Certificate ll in Hospitality  

This qualification aims to provide the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of activities related to employment within the hospitality industry.
