The Darling Downs Science and Engineering Challenge, held at the Clive Berghofer Centre at USQ, was a day-long competition designed to provide Year 10 high school students with a positive experience of science and engineering. The Challenge was a set of fun and competitive activities involving principles of science, engineering and technology. A maximum of eight schools per day competed against each other at the venue.
The Centenary Heights Maths/Science Extension class, ably led by teachers Ms Kerryn Asmus and Mr Dan Machulka, scored the highest points for their day of competition, and the highest points against all other competing schools over the four days of competition.
Each school team was divided into eight groups of between two to four students per group. Each group then completed either one full-day activity, or two half-day activities, and the school with the most cumulative points at the end of the day was declared the winner. As the highest scoring winning school from the Darling Downs region, our students' score will now be compared to other Queensland regions for a place in the state and - perhaps - the whole of Australia.
Congratulations to the students and staff of our Maths/Science Extension program; we are immensely proud of you.
