In Week 9 students from our Intensive English class, as part of their studies of the film genre, went on an excursion to the Strand Cinema. This was the first time the students had actually been to a cinema. Whilst they had seen the cinema experience on TV they had never had the opportunity to sit in a cinema, eat popcorn and watch a film.
They were thoroughly engaged, entertained and enthralled as they watched Space Jam on the big screen. Fortunately they were the only people in the audience as they responded with great applause and very loud cheers after each high point in the film and deep sighs for every low point. I am sure they will not forget the experience.
The Strand Cinema staff treated the students like VIPs and made the experience even more memorable. Students will complete a film review upon their return to school, as part of their Intensive English curriculum.
